Halloween weekend starts early at the San Luis Obispo location. On Friday, October 30, Skeleton Crewe is stopping by South Higuera for an intimate acoustic set and meet and greet from noon to 1 PM. This meet and greet precedes the much-anticipated show at SLO Brew Rock starting at 7 PM.

If you've spent any time following the Grateful Dead, you probably have already heard these names before. Every member of this band has shared a stage with a member of the Grateful Dead, and between the five of them they've played with Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Dead & Company, RatDog, Jefferson Starship and Hot Tuna. We're beyond excited to have them in the shop.

What's happening Friday

The band is playing an intimate 30-minute acoustic set right here at 3535 S. Higuera St. at noon, and they're hanging around to meet everyone too. Bring your records and ticket stubs if you want them signed, and grab a photo with the band while you're here.

We also teamed up with local artist Casey Wolf on a limited edition SLO CAL Roots x Skeleton Crewe poster, available at the shop.

The store event is open to adults 21 and over.

Meet the band

The five members of Skeleton Crewe reaching toward the camera under string lights

Rob Barraco, keys. Rob played keys in The Dead and spent nearly two decades as the keyboardist in Dark Star Orchestra, along with time in Phil Lesh & Friends. He's also written a lot of Skeleton Crewe's original songs with Robert Hunter, the Grateful Dead's longtime lyricist.

Barry Sless, pedal steel and guitar. Barry's pedal steel has been a big part of Bob Weir & Wolf Bros, Phil Lesh & Friends and the David Nelson Band.

Stephen Inglis, slack key guitar. Stephen is a master of Hawaiian slack key guitar and a recipient of the Ki Hōʻalu Legacy Award. He's also played with Bill Kreutzmann.

Pete Sears, bass. Pete's résumé runs from Jefferson Starship and Hot Tuna to Phil Lesh & Friends and the David Nelson Band.

Jay Lane, drums. Jay has held down the drum chair for Dead & Company, Bob Weir & Wolf Bros and RatDog.

The music

Skeleton Crewe came together in early 2024, and their shows mix original songs, Grateful Dead tunes and long improvisations that move from traditional Hawaiian music to psychedelic Americana. Rob Barraco put it this way: "This collaboration represents a unique moment in time, where five distinct musical paths converge."

The acoustic set at the shop will be a short, up-close taste of that. For the full experience, you'll want to see them at night.

Then they're truckin' over to SLO Brew Rock

Skeleton Crewe plays SLO Brew Rock, 855 Aerovista Place in San Luis Obispo, on Friday, October 30 at 7 PM. Tickets are on sale through TicketWeb.

So come by the shop at noon, say hi to the band, and then go see them play that night. We'll see you Friday.
